Steve - RE: Timna DELAY

This is GREAT for AMD!

Intel strikes AGAIN! Chalk up ANOTHER DELAY!

Duron + SIS integrated chipset is going to be a KILLER platform!

Hmmm, if the Timna MTH won't work, does this negatively affect a possible Willy MTH?

Otellini and Burns are our friends.

Steve - SWEET! Now we know where the early AMD activity came from. It was Intel employees loading up on AMD! :)

Re: The disease is spreading...... [Timna Delay]

My 2 cents is that even though Intel will be able to gain
more short term revenue from the freed up foundry space,
it's still a problem for Intel.

The hope was:

Timna || Via (Samuel/Joshua) Duron
Celeron || Athlon
Pentium || Mustang
Willamette || ------

The plan was:

Tima || Via (Joshua / Samuel)
Celeron || Duron
Pentium || Athlon
Willamette || Mustang

Now they risk:

Celeron || Via (Samuel/Joshua)
Pentium || Duron
Wilamette || Athlon
--------- || Mustang

Intel's threat from Via wasn't a cost or technical threat,
it was a marketing threat. My feeling is that VIA's
announcement of volume chips for Q3 was the most significant
one to come out of computex.

Sander's "virtual gorilla" is proving to be a pretty tough
customer.

<This sucks...

Message 13832319

The disease is spreading.........

Too bad.>

As bad as this sounds, this may be more of a PR nightmare but be actually be a good news for Intel. Thanks to Intel's inability to execute on RDRAM, Timna was getting ready to be DOA.

Message 13825739

This is a MAJOR PR issue for Intel and a few OEMs with plans for Timna back-to-school products are going to be pissed but that's a different story.

I have a strong feeling that Intel just took an escape path for saving Q3/4. Without Timna/MTH distraction, Intel can now put its entire focus on CuMine and 815 ramp (and 820 to some extent). Solves a lot of tactical/logistical problems, gives a few more higher MHz parts to sell, improves ASPs and gives it a shot at making Q4 even with a Wilamette miss.

Not bad!

Clearly this is an even better news for AMD. With Durons starting their life at 600MHz and K6s being phased out of desktop scene, and Dresden going full blast earnings should explode in Q4.

THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS FOR AMD LONGS.

Chuck

P.S.: I am seriously considering going 70 or 80% into AMD.

RE:"Timna delayed
yahoo.cnet.com.

Timna is sick, it has caught a bad case of HALLA-tosis...

I've been saying all along...Timna is dead before arrival. Too much of a juggling act. Won't scale...
E-machines might take a few...or maybe Intel will enact a new sales plan for it's loyal customers...Buy a Willy and get a Timna for free...
