Khan,
The new WRS has a lot of man power, but there are better places to use it. Of course, I hope that this [Java] will be a smashing hit, but I don't see how it could happen.

As embedded systems enter the mainstream, more and more programmers will enter the picture that simply want to program their app., and not be concerned with the nitty-gritty of machine-level programming. This trend argues for higher-level programming platforms, like Java.

That said, where do you think Windriver's resources can be better applied?

I'm still trying to figure out the acuisition of EST, a hardware company selling ICE's mainly for the PPC line. According to the financial reports, WIND took on 310M in "good will", and that will be ammortized at 19.5M/quarter over the next 16 q's. That's a 0.25/sahre hit to earnings each quarter. Yet, EST was bringing in only 30M annual in sales, and was apparently losing money (at least on paper) at that. As we know, hardware companies are a lot different than software to run and manage. What's the rationale there?
