drkoop.com Signs Two-Year Sponsorship Contract With webofcare.com
AUSTIN, Texas, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- drkoop.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: KOOP - news) today announced it has signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with webofcare.com, Inc., a virtual community for caregivers that provides specialized information on 26 healthcare situations, such as Alzheimer's/dementia and diabetes. The agreement includes a fixed sponsorship payment for drkoop.com, as well as a revenue-sharing agreement based on webofcare.com e-commerce offerings.

As a result of the sponsorship, drkoop.com will create a new content center for caregivers featuring content from webofcare.com. This center will make drkoop.com the only healthcare portal able to provide this vast amount of online support to America's at-home caregivers. The new Caregiver Center will feature animated demonstrations of daily caregiving skills, such as feeding and diapering, along with reliable, up-to-date articles reviewed by webofcare.com's board of doctors, nurses and therapists. The Caregiver Center is expected to launch in mid-July, and the content in it will be clearly identified as sponsor-provided.

In addition to exceptionally rich content for caregivers and a vibrant virtual community center, webofcare.com also offers the CareShop, an online store stocked with thousands of products ranging from incontinence and wound care products, to mobility aids, special bedding and carefully chosen books and videos on caregiving.

``Taking our unique content and resources to a major healthcare portal was the obvious way to grow our business-to-consumer sector and reach more caregivers,'' said David Walters, president and CEO of webofcare.com.

``We chose drkoop.com because its content is highly credible, the brand image is compelling, and the site has tremendous traffic. And now, unlike its competitors, it will have strong caregiver content. We believe drkoop.com has a bright future and we're pleased to be part of it,'' he added.

As the parents and loved-ones of baby boomers age, the number of caregivers in the U.S. is expected to increase dramatically.

``According to the National Family Caregivers Association, nearly 25 million Americans currently serve as caregivers to their parents, spouses and other loved ones,'' said Donald Hackett, president and CEO of drkoop.com. ``The content from webofcare.com will speak to those individuals by offering them support and answers to the problems they face. Our mission has always been to empower consumers with the information, resources and tools they need to better manage their health. This agreement marks a significant step in extending that mission to families and loved ones.''
