Jules, I don't put much credibility in this newspaper story either, Gent's focus on wireless, period, is well known. And it seems entirely out of character for him to do anything to appease Mannesmann, nor does he have to: that game is over. And besides 'flush with cash' is just what VOD needs to be with German spectrum bidding due to open soon. So of the choices, I think (assuming the VOD investor relations guy has it 1/2 right) that the IPO is off cause there's a buyer for the whole enchilada. Just like Orange, faster route to the goal. Gent's about speed which IPOs definitely lack. Mike Doyle

Arcor/Infostrada

You could very well be correct that both fixed wirelines may be sold. On the other hand, these two wirelines are relatively fast growing and Vodafone could see them as supplementing their internet strategy.

The Verizon Ipo is being done in part so there is money to buy spectrum when the US auctions start in the fall as well as to upgrade the network.

I have confidence that whatever Vodafone decides upon they will most probably be making the right move. Remember they have been valuing these types of assets for the past twelve years quietly and quite successfully.
