that could well be...ever since last year's price spike, managements have been under intense pressure w.r.t. hedging policies. if the new rules force them to mark their derivatives to market, the incentive to cover is clearly greater than before.

I thought there was already some disclosure required. Wasn't too long ago that NEM "fessed up" and some others. Was it just the notable couple of miners that got killed which prompted that? Are you thinking there is a lot of hedge exposure yet to be revealed -- seems pretty ironic, no?
