Hi Frank,

The 54Mbps rate of 802.11a and Hiperlan2 comes from full-duplex ATM 25 ;-)

There are eight specified rates - 6, 9, 12, 18, 24(IEEE)/27(Hiperlan2), 36, 48, 54 Mbps, of which 6, 12 and 24Mbps are mandatory.

The 802.11a devices will reach the market 1Q01, and efforts to do 108Mbps have been announced by Atheros.
