gun registration which will invariably lead to gun confiscation. I am not with you on this one either. With it or not check out New York, England and Australia. Yes, the Constitution gives us some (actually it says THE) rights to bear arms, but modern society being as it is I think some reasonable restrictions and tracking of that activity is appropriate. What does "modern society being as it is" mean? Does present day criminal activity make it seem logical to be unarmed. What statistics make you think there is a need of "reasonable" restrictions (felons have no gun rights) or that they will lessen crime? Statistics show that more liberal concealed carry laws correlate with lower crime rates. Conversely they show that restrictive laws correlate with more crime. (see "More Guns, Less Crime" by John Lott) If the Constitution does not explicitly permit those restrictions, perhaps it ought to be amended. Well, quite simply, it does, "shall not be infringed" and the Amendment guarantees the right. The rights are inalienable, life and liberty. It has been a long journey from the need for militias to keep the Redcoats at bay to Columbine High School being attacked by students with assault rifles. This is a confusing journey from revolution to the criminal actions of juveniles. How does this relate to the right to bear arms in defense of liberty (personal defense and defense against tyranny)? Were students liberating their high school or murdering their classmates? Are printing presses registered or licensed? What about churches or clergy? Free speech, need a license, background check, waiting period, word limit?
