Alcatel To Ship 6 Million Digital Subscriber Lines In 2000

Dow Jones Online News, 06/6/2000 12:44

ATLANTA -(Dow Jones)- Alcatel SA (ALA) plans to ship 6 million digital subscriber lines this year, which is higher than its initial estimate of 3 million.

In a press release Tuesday, the company said its acquisition of Newbridge Networks increased its market share in the fixed wireless broadband access to about 40%.

The company plans to increase its market share in broadband access, but also is targeting growing its market share in optical terabit routing.

Separately, Alcatel will offer high-speed Internet access products, such as its 1000 Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line Asynchronous Transfer Mode Server, through NTT Advanced Technology Corp.'s Japanese sales channels.

Alcatel supplies high-tech equipment to the telecommunication industry.
