Cheryl - yes, I agree - it would be nice if there could be more participation in the process, both in the Windows and Java worlds, but as Charles points out, this also opens the door to lots of problems, even if everyone is well-intentioned. I actually think SUNW is managing the Java process pretty well... I just got a little rankled when he started on "Open" and "free" - but I now realize that his intent was as much to bust chops as to discuss the issue, which is OK too...

Good post by SunSpot on re-defining terms, that is also kind of what I was saying about the "Open" discussion. Engineers like to define things specifically, and rely on those definitions. Marketeers like to appropriate terms to cover whatever they want to sell. No wonder there is lively debate!!
