Eeeeek. Ok, I took a look at trains, Amtrak has a 30 rail pass for about $650 during peak season, which is, of course, summer. But now I have to work out an intinerary, because you have to reserve the seats in advance. Yikes.

I've done the drive from LA to Seattle and from Phoenix to Portland via LA, but I knew what I was getting into and had company to keep me from dropping by the side of the road. Each is a great drive, but both require time lest they turn into pure drudgery.
