Just a matter of clarification. Is CDMA 1x an always on IP network? Is it mobile IP? Does the mobile device have an IP address?

I think that GPRS is WAP only. Does this mean that a laptop connected to a GPRS modem goes through WAP? Why would one want to do that? How does that affect full internet IP services?

engineer, we are used to talking of a CDMA network in terms of 5 MgHz of spectrum, with a typical deployment of three carriers plus one network pilot channel. When you mentioned the 7 bands voice/one HDR or 4/4, I think you were just illustrating your point. But it raised a question in my mind, especially with all the hoopla of so-called wideband-CDMA (DS) and the IPR licensing issue with IDC re. 10 MgHz of spectrum.

The question is this: for a carrier, what are the additional operating costs in deploying a 3 channel (plus a pilot) system, vs. an 8-channel vs. a 10 carrier system? Are the incremental costs proportional to the additional channels? Or are there disproportionate cost increases or reductions in going to additional channels? Do additional channels necessarily affect the cell architecture/topology and base-station deployment?
