That was also the same time that Pfeiffer was stuffing the channel to pump up the stock price in anticipation of the DEC deal, putting his head in the sand around the inability of CPQ's channel distribution to counter the direct DELL model in commercial PCs, allowing internal cost structures to bloat out of control under the "fiscal management" of Earl Mason, etc. Just goes to show how deep the analysis around "super CEO" goes at places like Forbes.
