Ten,

The Register may have the details wrong, but it is reasonable to believe there is a story behind this story. Perhaps there is a problem with Willy chipsets? Hard to believe for Intel!

Tenchusatsu,

Remember, only the YUK Register tells it like it is!!!

I am sure they (YUK) are not the only ones confused by the codenames. What does the Fireball stand for, again?

Tenchusatsu , is the Register perceptibly less reliable than Intel in its pronouncements of late? Consider

Intel says replacement for faulty chip ready soon news.cnet.com

versus Intel delays Timna release over component glitch news.cnet.com

which came a few days later, for example.

People who work for companies that do paper launches shouldn't throw stones. Fiduciarily speaking, they probably shouldn't throw FUD either, but that's another topic.

Cheers, Dan.

Tench, I agree with you. Sometimes Register is so wrong, it is not even funny. But I do have to admit that they do seem to get an early scoop on a lot of things.

I still remember the article they did in November of 99 claiming that Willamette would be out in December of 1999 debuting at 1100 MHz. Apparently they had gotten a word that Intel pushed the launch date forward by about a year due the competitive pressure from Athlon. LOL
