Prices of assets that can be leased are always linked to consumption patterns. However, lease prices are growing at a much slower pace than real estate prices throughout the boom. When you have the real thing, why use the proxy? Keep an eye on the proxy - sure - and the Fed is doing that. But don't use it in the measure.

And we were talking of the measurement of CPI.
