The 'Release 99' spec for UMTS/UTRA (DS) is final , and has been approved by the ITU for IMT-2000. Perhaps I should say it is only as "final" as it will ever be. The specifications for both UMTS/UTRA (DS) and cdma2000 (MC) are being released in phases. This gives QCOM an advantage on the MC side, but places them somewhat at a disadvantage on the DS side.

But you are correct, IMO, that "just because QCOM doesn't have a W-CDMA ASIC in production, doesn't mean that they're not capable. History shows us that they're the most capable. >>
