June 20, 2000 Toronto Stock Exchange: ACA ASHTON ANNOUNCES CYGNUS AND BH225 KIMBERLITE DIAMOND ANALYSES Robert T. Boyd, President and CEO of Ashton Mining of Canada Inc. ("Ashton") announces diamond results for the Cygnus kimberlite in the Northwest Territories and the BH225 kimberlite in Alberta. Cygnus Kimberlite: Roundrock Property, NWT On April 10, 2000 Ashton announced the discovery of the Cygnus kimberlite on the Roundrock property in the NWT. A kimberlite sample was collected by a vertical core hole from an interval of 46.3 to 65.6 metres depth. Cygnus lies 125 metres east of the diamondiferous Aquila kimberlite discovered in 1996. A total of 87.8 kilograms of the hypabyssal kimberlite was tested, resulting in the recovery of eight microdiamonds. Microdiamonds are defined as being greater than 0.1 and less than 0.5 millimetres in two dimensions using a square aperture screen. The diamonds were recovered by caustic dissolution at Ashton's North Vancouver laboratory. In addition to the diamondiferous Aquila and Cygnus kimberlites, the Roundrock property is known to host several kimberlite dykes. Indicator minerals with encouraging geochemical signatures and unexplained mineral indicator anomalies are also present. Therefore, while the Cygnus kimberlite is unlikely to be economic, the overall exploration potential of the property remains encouraging. Further investigations will be carried out during the 2000 summer field season. The 19,500 hectare Roundrock property is located approximately 130 kilometres west of the Ekati Mine. The joint venturers are Ashton (ACA-TSE), Tahera Corporation (TAH-TSE), Pure Gold Minerals Inc. (PUG-TSE), Paramount Ventures and Finance Inc. (PVF-CDNX), and Silverarrow Explorations Inc. (SVI-CDNX). BH225 Kimberlite: K14 Project Area, Alberta The BH225 kimberlite was discovered one kilometre north of K14 within the K14 Project Area in February 1999. The kimberlite is overlain by 30 metres of overburden and has an indicated magnetic signature measuring approximately 125 metres by 100 metres. Encouraging microdiamond results (67 microdiamonds, 5 macrodiamonds) were returned from a 96.4 kilogram sample collected at that time A further 990 kilogram sample was obtained in the spring of 2000 from one vertical and two angled core holes. This sample was processed by dense media separation at Ashton's laboratory in North Vancouver and returned a total of 0.035 carat of diamonds larger than 0.8 millimetre in two dimensions using a square aperture screen. The two largest diamonds recovered have maximum dimensions of 2.1 and 1.9 millimetres respectively. No further work is planned on BH225 at this time. The three kimberlites discovered on the Buffalo Hills property during this year's winter drill program (K8, K160, K252) are currently being tested for microdiamond content. Results are expected in early July. The joint venturers on the K14 Project Area and the Buffalo Hills property are Ashton, Alberta Energy Company (AEC.TSE and AOG.NYSE), and Pure Gold Minerals Inc.
