Imo "the people" is just as arbitrary a construct as political borders. Who are my people? I get to decide that. And I get to change my mind about it right up until I die.

As for crossing borders and risking bullets - that is a liability that befalls those who place a supposed birthright ahead of an expressly written law.

What I would do is change the law from within the system. If there is serious inequity at work, then the law should prove malleable.

Not trying to pick a fight. Just trying to observe that perception of birthright can breed a dangerous sense of entitlement.
