NN, I have no problem if the firm brings management around, that is adding value. Its the quality of the research that stinks at the small shops (and its only selectively decent at the larger shops).

On to OMKT v BVSN, the market is so fertile to sell e-business software that I think I could right a program with a JAVA for Dummies book and win a few deals. Someday, the franchises will be sitting on enormous market capitalizations and the OMKT's and BLSW's of the world will be in single digits and will trade by appointment only. Until then, OMKT and BLSW might advance 5x from here.... However, I am just gonna stick with my core names: BVSN, VIGN and ARTG in that space.

Has Mary been in Barron's recently? Despite major problems I have with that publication, I still find myself glancing over it every week but I don't remember the article.

I actually hate all of the investor conferences. I see your point about the advantage of the smaller ones, we just get most of our information directly from the key industry oriented shows rather than from management dog and pony expos.

I have yet to hear a management own up to a massive strategic mistake, slowing market growth or wildly irate customers...until I do, we'll do our work in the field and away from the managements with rose colored pupils. (I don't even want to discuss brokerage research.)

Sometimes, I think that half of the management teams actually truly believe the B.S. they try to feed us.

There have been a number of situations when our field work uncovered real problems in the market well before the management knew their were issues. (And sadly a number of times when problems showed up before the management knew and before we knew too!)

Bottom line, I like the investor conferences for introductions to new areas, but we rarely take anything management says at face value.
