Jones Act RoRo Vessel To Be Launched Spring 2002

CORTE MADERA, Calif., Jun 7, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Pasha Group and Van Ommeren Shipping (USA) LLC
today announced the signing of a $70-million contract to build a modern, Jones Act Pure Car and Truck Carrier
(PCTC).

The new ship will be built at Halter Marine?s Pascagoula, Mississippi shipyard, provide new competitive service to
meet market demand between the West Coast and Hawaii, and generate maritime jobs in Mississippi, California
and Hawaii.

The U.S. Maritime Administration also confirmed a Title XI financial guarantee to construct the new PCTC-type
vessel, which will be deployed in the Hawaii/Mainland trade. "Based on our research," said George W. Pasha, IV,
President and CEO of Pasha Hawaii Transport Lines LLC (PHTL), "there is widespread support in the
Hawaii/Mainland Roll On-Roll Off (RoRo) shipping community for a Pure Car and Truck Carrier-type vessel in this
trade. The vessel also will be enrolled in the military?s Voluntary Intermodal Sealift Agreement (VISA), and will
be eligible to carry Department of Defense-sponsored vehicles and rolling stock," he added.

PHTL is a joint venture between The Pasha Group, a California-based automobile handling and logistics
company, and Van Ommeren (USA), a Connecticut-based ship owner. The company will deploy this 13,000-DWT
vessel to carry more than 4,000 automobiles, buses, trucks, and/or other large and oversize RoRo-type traffic.
The new vessel?s design will incorporate a total of 10 decks, with three hoistable and three strong decks, and a
100-ton stern ramp.

According to George W. Pasha, III, Chairman of The Pasha Group, "This vessel has a proven design and the
flexibility to carry a wide range of RoRo cargo in enclosed, underdeck stowage. This PCTC design is the most
widely accepted method in the world for the maritime transportation of motor vehicles. In my more than 40
years? experience in global automotive logistics, waterborne vehicle commerce generally follows RoRo transport
methods when available in any maritime trade lane. This is due to the inherent efficiencies of this type of
transport for motor vehicles. We are confident this service will fill a void -- and meet growing demands -- in the
Hawaii/Mainland trade," Pasha said.

Halter Marine is a division of Friede Goldman Halter, a world leader in the design and manufacture of vessels and
equipment for the maritime and offshore energy industries. The PHTL vessel will utilize a proven European design
already employed by two European operators that have built and delivered two sister ships, which are currently
in operation.

Jane,

Disclaimer: I'm new to investing (2+years) and don't know much about the
energy sector. RE: My picks, I just threw darts, isn't that what everyone
else did ? Generally my level of DD on a stock selection consists of waiting
for Slider to pound the table.
Here is what I know about MDR, and it ain't much.

The way I understand the current cycle is that E&Ps benefited first
from the higher commodities prices as a result of their current production.
The money they make they will pass on to the drillers in order to add
to reserves. Once the drillers find something it needs to get to market. Marine construction fills the next link in the chain by getting the offshore
oil and gas onshore so it can make it to the refineries. Sorry for the lack of
detail but that's my level of understanding.
So I figured I'd pick a marine construction company as one of my picks. As
McDermott is one of the largest oil field service companies in the world (just
ask them) I went with them. (FOR THE CONTEST.)
Now as to MDRs weighting of second of five, based on my skill level I have no way
of determining which will outperform the others; I had to make one of them second.
Stuff I seemed to remember that led me to MDR.
Back in November of 99 MDR dropped 50% in days as a result of missing
earnings and as a result of increased legal disputes (asbestos).
Then, the entire energy market tanked in December and MDR fell some more.
The stock has yet to recover much of that, Gotta be some value there, right?
Since that time Slider and others have said it was a core long term hold.
Just prior to MDRs fall from $24 SSB had a 12 month target of $32/share, it reached a low of $7 and change I think.
Where now they are projecting, hold on to your laptops Jane, $10 12 months out, if they are a contrarian indicator at all MDR should double. They do this for a living ya know.

Besides marine construction MDR generates revenue from power generation
systems where it manufactures steam boilers, from government operations where
it fabricates nuclear fuel for the US Navy and from industrial operations
where in August, MDR's management will request funding from the board to
commercialize its new fuel cell technology.
I did not check insider purchases or institutional activity over the
recent past before making my decision or do any peer group comparisions.
I don't know what to compare anyway.

RE: Your purple tint,<G> I've done that trying to make mine
jet black, whenever I was around the light of a halogen it turned out to be the coolest color of purple. That's art.
