<after reflecting on Labastida and Fox ... although i maintain that mexicanos could do better, the fact is they don't.

I hope they do better. I would be very interested to see Fox win. Not only has he been in business for himself in his past, but also it will be the big break away from the dinosaurs of the PRI. Indeed the first defeat ever for the presidency... that alone I think it would have some sort of moral boost for the population at large.

However, the practicalities of dealing with the established lower bosses might prove to be quite the different story.

Never met a politician i liked entirely ...

Well... I can't say I have ever liked one even a little.

if they take M‚xico as the 51st state look how much more power Algore or Dubya would have ... too scarey, imho

Well, see this is where I view it differently. Mexicanos need to think a little like gringos.

First nobody "takes" anything. Both sides MERGE
Like this: Give them access to the godsend real estate, clearly Mexico has mismanaged it. Just like the gringos sold the trophy properties to the Japanese, they can't take it to DC, as much as the Japanese could not take the trophies to Tokyo.

Then... remember, Mexicanos are not machos, but they are muchos, (more like "un chingo" *g*).

Who is going to have real political power ? The Latino case just got better only by 100 million "Hispanics" (according to the census).

Now... Don't you think that there would be an absolute boom in all kinds of industries ? job creation etc. The people would bitch a bit (from both sides), but in the end, economic realities would win over such differences.

Besides, think about the Deep South in the US ? Do you think the great majority of those guys are any more "sophisticated" than most of the Mexicanos ? A = I doubt it. (They just speak bad English *g*) -- come to think of it, both groups would speak bad English, except the Mexicanos would be easier to understand.

So, now you have a tremendous infusion of Capital and lots of improvements to be made in the infrastructure, after a while, the differences would become smaller and smaller.

Most importantly, in a way, Mexicanos would re-gain the old territory, which in any event, they are in the process of regaining as it is today. No more border patrol bs (imagine the tax dollars the US would save.

There would be some sort of "adjustment period" so salaries would be "phased in". Of course education would improve over time.

So what's the big deal if instead of the Mexican National Anthem, you now sing the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so big deal ? As it is, most youths listen to American music anyway.

So the increase of power from an American president strictly from the Anglo side would be at best, questionable. Latino power would become more on an equal footing I think.

Imagine the new resources put together, and working together instead of fighting each other over a stupid imaginary line? (Which they cross it anyway.)

Above from the head - this from the heart; No way, Jos‚. Nunca. El acero aprestad y el brid¢n, y retiemble en sus centros la tierra, al sonoro rugir del ca¤on.

See what I mean ? You yourself said it... "From the heart." Mexicanos, for once, they need to start thinking with the head, NOT just "feeeeeel". Besides, those words are part of a symbolism created by politicians to achieve exactly what you are reflecting... passion, without regards for common sense.

LIke I said before, show me the alternative, and I will consider it... the reality is, time is running out.

Chances are, due to your expressed attitude, which I know is shared by the majority, which such 51st state will never come to exist. But SOMETHING needs to be done, in a similar vein, that will allow Mexico, and its people have an alternative to the current situation.

Lastly... what ca¤on ? How are they going to afford them ? They can not even fight "comandante marcos" how the hell they are going to fight the Marines ? With frijoles ?...

Whatever... only a suggestion. Oh well...
