Hi Mike,

Re: CDMA(3g) - According to the CDMA Development Group, this standard is being designed to eventually support a 2Mbps fixed data stream and 384Kbps mobile.

Re: CDMA 1X - Here's a current announcement on developments in Korea:

SK Telecom Selects 3Com And Samsung 3G Wireless Solution For World's First cdma2000 1X Network

SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 5, 2000 - 3Com Corporation today announced that its joint solution with Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., for high-speed wireless data and voice networks will be deployed this year by SK Telecom of Korea in the world?s first cdma2000 1X network. The new network from 3Com and Samsung will enable SK Telecom customers to access mobile data services at speeds of up to 144Kbps

While 144Kbps is a terrific advance over present network capabilities, it is not on the order of 5 times the data flow of EDGE. I can neither confirm nor deny Mr. Gilder's comments. But I can say that this press release doesn't mention Qualcomm, nor does it appear that the speed advantage is as great as is stated by Mr. Gilder. Perhaps others, more intimately familiar with Q* have more information. :)

Best,Ray
