LightPath Announces Consulting Agreement With Prestigious Industry Expert

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- LightPath Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: LPTHA - news), manufacturer of families of high performance fiber-optic collimator and isolator products, today announced the establishment of a long-term consulting agreement with Dr. Ravinder Jain. Dr. Jain, an industry leader with over 30 years of experience in the fields of optics and photonics, will be supporting the development of LightPath's optical matrix switching engine currently being performed at the company's Warren, New Jersey location. The addition of Dr. Jain provides LightPath not only with his expertise in the area of Optoelectronic & Electro-Optic devices for the telecom market, but also with access to an extended network of resources he has amassed throughout his career.

Dr. Jain brings to LightPath Technologies a distinguished career in both industry and academia. He is currently Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Professor of Physics & Astronomy at the University of New Mexico. Among his many professional and scholastic honors and activities, Dr. Jain is an Associate Director of the Alliance for Photonic Technology, which is a joint program office formed by Sandia National Labs, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratories and the University of New Mexico. The primary purpose for the Alliance of Photonic Technology is to facilitate the transfer of photonic technologies to U.S. Industry. In addition, Dr. Jain is also a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (IEEE), a Fellow of the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and a Fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA).

Dr. Jain holds both an M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Sciences from the University of California, Berkeley. Following completion of his studies in 1974, he spent three years with Bell Labs in Holmdel, New Jersey. He joined Hughes Research Laboratories in Malibu, California in 1978. From 1984 through 1991 he led various product development efforts, including solid-state lasers and optical fiber amplifiers, at Amoco Technology Company in Naperville, Illinois. He left industry in 1992 and began his current teaching assignment at the University of New Mexico.

LightPath manufacturers its proprietary collimator assemblies, GRADIUM© glass products and other optical telecommunications products at its headquarters in Albuquerque. The Company's subsidiary, Horizon Photonics, manufacturers isolator products utilizing its proprietary automation technology in Walnut, California. LightPath also has an office in Warren, New Jersey for the purpose of developing various optical switch products. The Company has 22 patents, plus 4 more pending, associated with its optical technologies. In addition, various foreign countries have issued a total of 8 patents with 9 patents pending.
