That is precisely correct, generally if not universally. They betray an anxiety to be believed, and oversell it. Also, besides sheer ignorance, people are often not quick on their feet, and fail to consider the cover story ahead of time, checking it for consistency. For example, if a local said that he was coming from Baltimore to Annapolis, but happened to be passing Bowie on the way, and stopped by a friend's, he would be busted. No one would take such a circuitous route unless he was planning to stop in Bowie.....
