Allan, it's interesting that Ericy and Nokia have, allegedly, been working on W-CDMA since 1996 [at the latest - the early work was done by Ericy in 1890]. But they still seem to be running around with brassboards instead of multipath, soft handoff little handsets in multibasestation fully-loaded systems moving at 100kph. QUALCOMM in a similar time had gone from nowhere, with little funding and having to invent everything as they went, to an actual operational CDMA system. The VW40 Guild has got all the funding in the world, the hard part of the technology was already invented by Q! and it is STILL not working. Meanwhile, Q! has got 1X and HDR ready to rumble and MC-CDMA stepping up to the plate. W-CDMA and EDGE really do fully fit the definition of vapor ware AND Vapour-Wear. How about those Koreans, pretending to go with W-CDMA because it will be 70% of 3G even though their country is full of cdmaOne and upgrades and they have huge technical and commercial advantage in Q! flavours of CDMA. At least they admit that they are really negotiating on royalties. That's mainly what W-CDMA is about. Q! is sitting tough on over 5% for MC-CDMA and any other flavour. If Korea did select W-CDMA, they'd be stuck with the Q! royalty anyway AND have to pay the 6 Musketeers as well as get a rotten technology standard which will never work as well as MC-CDMA. AND it would give huge support to their primary competitors. Yeah, sure they'll go with W-CDMA. Haahahahah! There had been hopes a few years ago that 3G would see royalties whittled away to 2%. But CDMA has been so wildly successful [despite Korea disappearing after the Asian Contagion and being killed off by the huge royalties - some claimed that] that there is no need at all to reduce royalties. They are frustrated. Okay, so we agree on some things. Which can be dangerous because it means people stop questioning when they agree. But what about disagreements? Any left? Mqurice
