KL, let's postpone the debate on the merits or the lack thereof of fiat currency...but i promise i'll come back to it.
let me just say a few things:

a)'long' period is relative. gold is the only currency that is nobody else's obligation, and has been such for thousands of years.

b) the fiat system remains an open invitation to rob the citizenry of its savings...and governments will invariably resort to misusing the system.

c) the way things are now set up, you have to trust in the wisdom of a handful of bureaucrats.

d) i don't advocate full gold backing. it's impractical.

e)it's ramp time.
