I agree with you 100%. To me, it all boils down to risking one of the best franchises in history on a technology for a part of the computer that isn't even in the absolute critical path for performance. 1 GHz desktop computers, let alone Willamettes, are ridiculously powerful enough anyway, with plain vanilla memory in them.
