I am also hearing concerns of a possible slowdown in the chip business

I think you have to be very careful of the source of this kind of information. I fully expect Intel to do badly this quarter and they will no doubt blame a slowdown. Could they be softening us for a preannouncement?

Gopher,

I only brought up Intel's comments to let you know that I don't have a clear handle of what's going on. Intel is screwed up and is in a covering your butt mode.....typically Intel does not preannounce...I think its beneath them.

The comments re a slowdown have been CNBC, TSC, and one other source...maybe IBD but I am not sure of that. There is so much speculation right now because of the feds tightening and its impact on the economy. Its hard to discern what's real and what's not real.....that's why I am paying close attention.

<< I am amazed that Intel have not lost ground much faster with stores not selling PIII systems faster than 600 MHz. They may still rule the big business sector, but they are fast losing the small business as well as the home markets. >>

Well AMD has always done well in retail/consumer. While we're doing better now it doesn't seem to be a whole lot on us gaining market share as much as selling more profitable chips. As long as intel rules big business they'll likely have strong earnings.
