Microcast and Excite@Home Form Alliance to Deliver High Quality Broadband Media

DANBURY, Conn., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Microcast, Inc. (http://www.microcast.net), the world's highest capacity streaming media provider, today announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM), the leader in broadband, that gives the Microcast video distribution network immediate, high-speed connectivity to Excite@Home's 15,000 mile backbone network. This partnership allows Microcast to deliver an unprecedented level of broadband video and audio streaming quality and performance to Internet users.

Specifically, Microcast will install unique, private fiber optic connections directly to Excite@Home backbone routers within multiple central office locations that both companies currently occupy in common. Because of this exclusive arrangement, Excite@Home and Microcast will be able to activate these nationwide connections rapidly, with complete deployment targeted within the next 45 days. This structure eliminates traditional Internet congestion points and allows Microcast to deliver broadband video and audio through the Excite@Home backbone.

"Microcast is excited to partner with Excite@Home and become the only content distribution network that is located in the same central office locations as their facilities today," said Paul Nash, chairman, CEO and co-founder of Microcast. "By establishing high-speed connectivity onto Excite@Home's backbone, Microcast will be able to provide its customers with immediate access to the industry's largest broadband network."

"Internet bottlenecks pose a major problem on the Internet today," said Mark O'Leary, executive vice president of Excite@Home Business Solutions (EBS), the commercial division of Excite@Home. "The potential for the Internet to get clogged over its various peering points becomes compounded when file sizes start to increase because consumers want broadband content. Microcast and Excite@Home together are helping to eliminate Internet bottlenecks for our respective customers, improving their experience by an order of magnitude." About Microcast
