Alcatel Conducts trial on Voice Over DSL with SingTel and Tdsoft Business Editors SUPERCOMM 2000 Hall 4, B1-01 CommunicAsia 2000 Singapore Expo SINGAPORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2000-- Alcatel provides first Voice over DSL solution using Tdsoft's VoNGATE(TM), a versatile voice access gateway, for ADSL subscribers Alcatel, a global leader in DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) solutions today announced that they have entered a strategic alliance with SingTel, Singapore's largest Telco and Tdsoft, a developer of Voice over Next Generation Access solutions, to conduct the first Voice over DSL (Digital Subscriber Loop) trial service in Singapore. This solution will offer end users an integrated voice and fast Internet access over a single copper pair using ADSL broadband access technology. ``We are delighted to be able to enter into this strategic alliance with SingTel and Tdsoft. Consequent to the success of this trial, SingTel will be the first Telco in the region to offer Voice services over ADSL to its subscribers. With this combination of technologies, SingTel would be able to cater to the high demand for high-speed Internet access as well as offering voice services over their existing DSL broadband infrastructure, thus leveraging their PSTN switch infrastructure. A Voice over DSL live demo will be demonstrated at Alcatel's booth (Hall 4, B1-01, CommunicAsia 2000, Singapore Expo (June 6-9). Voice over DSL is a technology that allows additional voice calls to be carried over normal telephone lines. With the ADSL infrastructure in place, up to 16 additional digital calls can now be added on to the existing telephone wire, in addition to the traditional analog calls. ``This is an important strategic partnership and a breakthrough in technology that will benefit our consumers.
