You beat me to posting this one. That release says it all in no uncertain terms. Now wonder how much coverage CNBC gives it. It truly says QCOM is the gatekeeper to the wireless future.

Q has drawn a line in the sand. No words were minced here. Moreover, there are many different messages being sent == all strong and all unequivocal.

To NOK its "peace and pay now or war and pay more later"; to NTT its "better not move up from brassboards"; to C its "buzz off, griz"; to Unicom Group (the parent which actually owns the CDMA rights) its "lets get the next IPO rolling." To the world its, "we've got the technology,it's better and faster, and best of all, it's here now!"

There's more, but those messages stand out to me.

That was about the toughest and most straight forward PR I've ever seen. "QUALCOMM owns a substantial portfolio of CDMA patents, including many ``essential'' patents that are necessary for the deployment of any proposed 3G CDMA system, such as Multi-Carrier, Direct Spread, and another system referred to as TD-SCDMA." No wishy washy "we believe that we may perhaps own essential and important patents." (See the IDCC PR for an example of wishy washy.)

This is really the moment of truth for investors: do you believe in the managment which made these statments? If so, load up the truck.
