The post Vatican II church over the last 35 years has created more problems than anything it did over the past 500 years. Really? Care to give me an example... meanwhile, the inquisition and the despotic character of their god-mandated guilt spreading leadership for 500 years placed on the Latin American populace (particularly the natives, who were treated like slaves), created a population ready to be nothing more than servants. Only hard work and strong will would free them from these feudal bastards, and that is if they were lucky enough to escape the 'garrote vil' and other more modern antics of mental torture. Take women as an example... "Pregnant, barefooted and in the kitchen" Yes, it has changed today, luckily, and yes they do not listen to them any more, but in general, humanity has lost 1,0000 years thanks to the religious voodoo so generously spread, amongst others by the supreme king who seats his royal arse at the Vatican. Don't forget that Castro would have been shot eons ago if not for the intervention of Jesuit priests on behalf of his mother. Hey, I am no Castro lover, as far as I am concerned they should have shot him a long time ago, however, one must recognize that Uncle Fidel is one smart cookie that has maintained the idiotic American ultra-conservatives in a constant state of "check". Perhaps the Americans should have treated him differently, I do not know. Frankly I do not see the relevancy of your point. For many people especially the old the only thing they have is their faith. What would you substitute that with? Marxism perhaps? Most probably the reason they only have their faith is because the church in the first place restricted their thinking with the proverbial bullshit of "god-fearing" thoughts. I do not pretend to tell people what to think, they are free to think whatever the hell they want, (so long they do not interfere with me, or my interests). Is it not freedom precisely that? The opportunity to do and think what you will (within reason of course). Why do you bring up Marxism? I am not a communist, and being an atheist and someone who despises the churches for their acts (rather than their mere voodoo) does not automatically make me a communist. You are as obtuse as they come. No one I met in Italy or Brasil takes the heavy duty Catholic dogma to seriously with the sole exception of the Marxists who don't like the competition. Well, I knew that. As I said in an earlier post, to this day, I have yet to meet a Jesus-wacko of the caliber one finds in the American religious fauna that one encounters in the US. We Latinos may have lots of defects, but we are well behind, (generally speaking), in the wacko department, (at least for now). You see, we do not have Ted Kasinskis, Jerry Falwells, Pat Robertsons, Mansons, and Jim Bakers, then again, this may change, as we become more "civilized". And as far as the communists go, don't worry, you can take your voodoo saint dolls down from your doors and windows, those guys are toast already, the word is out already and the populace already likes the Wall Street greed, slowly they will embrace the "dark side of the force", soon they won't believe the next "Che" guevara that will come and try to sell them snake oil. Now, the task at hand is the religious zealots, and guilt-trip salesmen, they are the next to go. How would you like an on-line auction of the Vatican treasures? Give it 5 more years and the idea won't sound too far-fetched. The proceeds will go to fund the trust that will be created in order to pay the due retribution of the victims of the crusades and inquisitions.
