Hereen,

Before I directly answer your question about Aberdeen I want to apologize to everyone who went straight to page 5 of that piece at my direction when it is really on page 6 that the example of Citrix is placed.

How familar are you with these guys?

Somewhat familiar but nothing more. I know of Aberdeen mostly because they and I follow the front-office software space closely. I've never bought any of their research reports and only know the summary information in them from their press releases about those reports.

The comment on Citrix is interesting since they assert that Citrix expanded their product because of Microsoft.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I didn't interpret that example as literally as it appears you did. Instead, I took their example to mean that Microsoft is among many large companies who, by the very nature of their aggressiveness and the vastness of their resources, create a competitive environment that causes the better small companies to innovate and develop products that inure to the benefit of consumers.

I am curious how many people believe that?

I hate to say this without knowing the facts, but I wouldn't be surprised if the example of Citrix was chosen because so few people understand the company or its products. The only people I'm in touch with who have ever heard of Citrix are those in the Gorilla Game folder who heard about it mostly from me and people who learn of Citrix in pursuit of their career. That being the case, the author knew he wouldn't be under the threat of much challenge because most don't know enough about the situation to agree or disagree.

When I provided the link to the Aberdeen piece in the Gorilla Game folder I also mentioned that I didn't think the piece was written particularly well. Your thoughts added to mine make me feel even more so that that's the case.
