Losing Gail Goodrich was the best thing that ever happened to the Lakers. They sent him to New Orleans in exchange for three draft picks, including a first round pick for the coming year. Well, New Orleans had the worst season in the league, so Lakers got first pick. What year was that? 1979 - the birth of showtime. Magic Johnson came to the Lakers and the rest is history.

Gail was Good, but Magic was magic!
