onurbius,

I LOL'ed at hdl's response to this: "there is a place for a man even though there are vibrators." It's just perfect.

I'd just note that fears of "...millions of people out of work..." may be rampant here, but if you ask me, that just implies productivity gets to such a point that human needs are provided for without a need for much work on our part. That would free up a lot of time for things people will want to play around with, this in turn creating other unforseen jobs and improving the quality of life. The age old fear, the fallacy, that says technology only puts people out of work is alive and well, but having been subservient to much labor throughout history, we'd in reality be freed to a great extent- and unmet needs of the common man only would grow smaller as the effort required to achieve satisfactory abundance is lessened. It is good.

Technology does not logically imply hardship. I think George is correct, as until you understand this truism, you do not understand the inexorable technological future anymore than I do, or George does.
