There are plenty of towers out there now on which space could be leased, and there are plenty more going in all the time by national companies and local wireless operators, alike, to meet a growing number of purposes.

This premise is the precise premise I suggested to an Airtouch (Verizon) rep a couple weeks ago in an effort to improve the wireless connectivity to my 'hood (no surprise).

Its interesting to note that at the SW intersection Beverly Glen & Muholland, about 1/2 mile from where I live, up atop a hill, a radio transmission tower exists along with some operational facilities that for some reason or another is "closed" to the cellular folks. Why? Is it private? If so, their permit to operate along this corridor is certainly subject to a multitude of restrictions. If not, then, IMHO, there is no public policy that could excuse "opening up" the site to commercial facilities. My guess is that the site is publicly owned, & likely used by the fire station about 500 ft to the east.

The bottom line, Frank, is I agree with your vision. Now if we can just that vision to be politically & commercially acceptable.
