<< you've got social problems galore (not that we haven't started down that road here too). >> Of course we have plenty of social problems. So why is there still so much successful innovation and entrepenarialism in the US? Why can't other countries do this too? << don't you have the or one of the highest incarceration rates ? and didn't Jesse Jackson once say jail is a step up for many ? i hear that living in the american ghettoes is now WORSE than living in a third world country. >> I think you are correct on all of these points. It doesn't change the fact that HP, Sun, MSFT, DELL, CSCO, AMGN, CBST, etc, were hatched and grown in the US, and not England, France, Norway, Botswana, Chad, Paraguay, Egypt, Turkey, or New Zealand. <<and didn't Japan rise from the ashes of ww2 to become a major economic force and take away from you the electronics industry lock stock and barrel ? >> Yes, Japan rose from the ashes of ww2 largely because the allies (mainly the US) helped with economic aid, rebuilding support, and a temporary provisional govt ! And then we left. And in Europe, I believe it was the McArthur Plan that did much the same, mostly in central europe. Some of the US national debt originated from these efforts, in addition to the war istelf. Japan was great at taking American products, opening them up and seeing how they worked, then making improved copies of these products. Japan also learned how to make products with quality during a time when US co's seemed to believe quality did not matter. <<but yeah i guess like archie bunker once said, 'america has the grossest national product' >> And we also accept more immigrants than anyone else! BTW, do you know how chilly the Japanese are toward immigration? They love visitors, but they don't like permanent transplants!
