American Spirit: "In my posts I am mainly concerned about very near term market performance. Any why not? These days we can do a whole year's profit (or loss) in a few minutes. Next week even seems like a long time from here." Then why buy the beaten down stocks like UIS, T, and LU? If you want to "play" this market, you will have to learn to divorce fundamentals from short-term trading movement (psychology and speculation). They are not related in the near-term IMO. You want to make money in the near-term? Buy the crap that moves. You want to be an investor? Buy your beaten down stuff based on your fundamental analysis and be patient.
