STEAG is a large German electric utility company who has tried to diversify by buying semiconductor equipment companies. They bought AST Electronik about four years ago and it was eventually renamed STEAG RTP. They make rapid thermal processing tools. Rumor has it that STEAG is trying to sell off this business (along with the wetbench business STEAG Microtech). Mattson is sometimes mentioned as a potential buyer. STEAG Mircotech has had a long patent battle going with CFM Technologies.
