It won't in this case, no way ... there is not the religiously-inspired hatred, for one thing ... the great majority on both sides of that border are peaceful practical people who just want to get along, get fed, get housed, get laid ... No, I didn't think it would in this case. But my mind operates mostly in the abstract. Just as I naturally thought about Elian in the context of American kids abducted to countries where they perform genital mutilation, so I worry that your idea about rights gives aid and comfort to those peoples not occupying their ancient homelands who would take things to an ugly place. It's a problem in the abstract only. I doubt that people in those places are following this thread on SI. Karen
