Kit, Generally, I prefer time over strike price. So, I would prefer an October further out of the money to a July closer to the money. Sometimes the further outs are so expensive that you have to step up and buy the nearer term puts. That is what I did during the last Christmas lies season. Although I made money, it was not extremely successful and I prefer my old tried and true 4 months out technique.
