You did appear to draw the inference that gas prices weren't moving up very much from your experience by saying:

So gasoline prices rose by 1.3%. And when I was reporting that in the gas station that I fill price for 93 has remained stable for the past few weeks, I was accused...

I translated the above to "Gas prices haven't gone up very much, I told you so (based on my one-station sample)"

Now, the more important point is that according to the AAA survey as well as the unleaded gas futures markets posted by others, the price of gas has increased by far more than 1.3% between April and May, barring extremely selective sampling. Perhaps that is what happened with the government statistics (intentional or not).

As for the "bearish posts based on single data points with no objections from anyone," many of these single data points are simply filling in a bearish picture that many thread participants are already familiar with and agree with. I do agree that there are some posts that look too hard for bearish data, but it pales in comparison to the bullish spin found on most other SI threads.
