Uncle Frank: As you say, the only sure thing here is my objection to the term. But enough of that, as you have pointed out very well, that is just a bit of fun.

On Qualcomm, I agree with you on the clearness and directness of the message.

I was particularly pleased to see it directed in the heading to:

"Business Editors and High-Tech Writers". Right target IMO.

On market price reaction, having been watching the substance of CDMA and Qualcomm's technology for more years than I wish to count, nothing surprises me as far as failure on the part of the financial community, the press and the general public to recognize the uniqueness of Qualcomm's position in wireless and the "Dangerfield" effect the Q seems to enjoy (is that the word) with the Eastern press, media and "street" folks.

As long as I have observed all that, it still is a "puzzlement" to me. Sure free lunches, handouts and laziness play some part, but there seems to be more to the lack of savvy particularly on the "street". When you figure that out, please clue me in.

In the meantime, I think (always the optimist) that the late confusion and the Q's licensing of 8 Chinese firms, is a major plus for Qualcomm over the next year to 18 months. That is because I see production of CDMA products and equipment as very important to the Chinese, and the Europeans trying to keep control for themselves is poor tactics. The Europeans are underestimating the Chinese in this IMO.

And I for one, do not expect a major move in the Q's price before the fall and winter real world roll out of 1xMC and then HDR. Just IMO.

Best.

"I'm amazed that the market hasn't responded with a greatly increased valuation for qcom today."

Do you think that it is just that the overall market isn't moving much. If that be the case I would think upward pressure is building up like steam in a boiler and when it pops Q will really move.JMHO.

<<Do you think it will take a court decision to make the analysts realize the game is over?>>

IMHO, yes, or (preferably and more likely) a capitulation/settlement in advance of an impending court decision. That's what it took to end the previous round of the Holy Wars, and that's what it will take to end this one too...

Dr. J's press release was crystal clear, and I haven't heard any denials of their claim of ipr on wcdma from the competitors' camps. I'm amazed that the market hasn't responded with a greatly increased valuation for qcom today. Do you think it will take a court decision to make the analysts realize the game is over?

We have a situation where one sides says "you'll have to pay us in the future," and the other side says "no we don't." When they either pay or don't that will be the point where the market reacts. For now the market just takes everything as posturing.

- Fred

P.S. We know that Dr J doesn't posture.
