U.S. Gulf rig utilization continues to rise

HOUSTON: The U.S. Gulf of Mexico offshore rig count increased by one compared to last week, continuing its recent upward trend, according to Offshore Data Services? weekly offshore rig count. With 166 of the region?s 200 mobile offshore drilling units under contract, U.S. Gulf rig utilization is 83.0 percent, its highest level in 22 months.
Worldwide offshore rig utilization also increased slightly over last week. Of the 641 mobile offshore drilling rigs active worldwide, 525 are under contract. Worldwide offshore rig utilization is 81.9 percent.

European offshore rig demand is unchanged from last week. With 89 of the region?s mobile offshore drilling units under contract, European offshore rig utilization is 84.8 percent.
