Jim, re: Platform dependence.
I'll answer one of your questions. (How about you explaining the architectural differences that require new software to utilize the speed of rambus?)
There are software upgrades that are platform dependent. Most notably to support CPU extensions such as MMX, SSE, 3DNow, etc. But I doubt if Rambus architecture was designed with the requirement for software upgrades to compete with SDRAM. IMO, the architectural differences were designed with speed in mind and to support existing software. But I am interested in your opinion.
