Superconductor Technologies Shares Rise Again

Santa Barbara, California, June 9 (Bloomberg) -- Superconductor Technologies Inc. shares rose a second day following the company's announcement that it will hire more workers to meet demand for its wireless-network filters.

The shares were up 1 15/16, or 5.4 percent, to 38 1/16. They jumped 35 percent yesterday after the company said it plans to expand its marketing and sales departments.

Superconductor Technologies, which hasn't had a profitable quarter since going public in 1993, declined to identify any new customers or disclose details about its new contracts.

The company's filters use superconductor technology, which lets electricity pass with little resistance through materials cooled to very low temperatures, to reduce interference on wireless networks.

Superconductor Technologies said it has installed 273 filtering systems at cellular base stations worldwide, gaining 79 percent of the market in the first quarter. About half of the 70 units went to U.S. Cellular Corp. of Chicago.

Santa Barbara, California-based Superconductor Technologies agreed last year to give U.S. Cellular a warrant to buy one share of its stock for every $25 in product purchases as part of a five- year sales agreement.

Sam Sara, and Greg, PWER continues to run...up 6 per cent. This consolidator of the power companies is being bought by someone; up strong in a down market today.
