I don't see why Castro was the issue either. But for some bizarre reason, the Clinton administration felt the need to get in bed with Castro, instead of allowing a custody dispute to work its way through the family court system.

Politics should have stayed out of it. The boys father should have flown into Miami airport and went to family court. The outcome would no doubt have been the same, without all the ugliness and snuggling up to a communist dictator.

Instead of allowing our court system to decide the outcome. Clinton and Janet Reno made the decision from the oval office for political reasons. They took sides, and in the process vilified the relatives for daring to disagree with them.

They could have simply made a statement similar to the one they initially took.

"Both people love and care about this young boy, and our family court system is the best place to determine what is in the best interest of the child. We will stick by their decision regardless of the political ramifications. If Castro doesn't like the outcome, too bad. Free societies don't make decisions like dictatorships"

Actually, i got the 'Mi hijo' from George Papadopolous who got it from Juan Miguel Gonz lez Quintana ... George did freely translate the 'que se dejen la pol¡tica' to 'all the rest is BS', but that certainly does preserve the spirit of the thought -g-

The Miami bunch handed Castro a victory early in December when they announced the intention to take Juan Miguel's son permanently ... the INS then severely limited that victory by standing up for the principle of paternal rights ... they turned the tables on Fidel, now it's his turn to demonstrate some humanity ... we'll see how it goes, but it's his game to lose from here on in, and he's got a spotty record so far.
