3) The few stocks that I know of that have a chance of outperforming AMD are turn around cases where there are serious risks. For example, the risk of AMD going bankrupt by years end seems quite remote to me. I suppose an asteroid wiping out Austin could do it.

Mike;

I think there are otherways to realize good appreciation without going to turn around companies. I look for stocks that have accelerating growth due to new products, acquisitions and/or a change in conditions in their industry (ie telecom) and/or very small floats. An example is TLGD where two years ago I bought the stock at $10 and sold at $18. I sold it at $18 because I didn't see it going anywhere.....its growth was only 30% YOY on a small base. But than earlier this year or late last year, I saw it was at $30 and was blown away. In February, after realizing that its growth was accelerating, I bought it at $70. It ran to about $85 and then split in March...it had then, pre-split, and continues to have, a really small float. Since then, it has continued to run up, closing Friday at $99; that would be $198 without the split. That's a 135% increase since middle February.

And tlgd is not the only one, there are quite a few in the telecom and semi sectors....with improving fundamentals and/or small floats......ANDW, IRF, and SYXI to name a few. One warning about small floats...they are incredibly volatile. TLGD gained 14 pts Friday and then could turnaround Monday and lose ten of those pts.

Nonetheless, I think these stocks carry a lot less risk than turnaround plays. JMO.
