Hi sergiotenenbaum; Actually, the only part of that article that interested me was the statement that Dell wasn't marketing RDRAM anymore. I interpreted this not to mean that they weren't selling RDRAM based machines, but instead that they were not advertising them. Any verifications out there?

As far as the other points you mentioned, I might as well respond.

(a) Re Willy. Willy doesn't get here until 1Q01. Plus we never saw any official press releases after the Intel meeting with the memory makers. Intel has every reason in the world to make public any sudden increase in the future availability of RDRAM, but I haven't seen anything. Same with Rambus. (Except those mysterious Taiwanese articles.)

(b) Re imminent production quadrupling of PS/2. Production is to go to 2 million per month from 500K. That means RDRAM usage of 4 million per month, or 48 million per year. This is a substantial use of DRAM, almost 1% of total world usage, but it is still only 1%. See:

(c) Re DDR chipset delays. There are two kinds of delays in chipsets. One is due to the chipsets not working. The other is due to the customers not wanting them. DDR has been subject only to the second variety of delay, Micron had the DDR Samurai chipset working back last year. Simply, there was no reason for increasing the memory bandwidth of desktop computers until AMD and Intel get the 1GHz processors out in substantial quantity. Around the end of the year will be the right time. Technology always has to wait for other technology to need it. RDRAM was pushed out too early, and look at what happened.

(d) Re: "Why AMD?s statement that not any DDR work whit its chips mentioned?" I take this to be a reference to the disclaimers that AMD puts in its press releases. Certainly AMD has never stated that DDR will not work. In fact, they have repeatedly stated that they are going to ship it this year. They've been hitting their release dates rather well, recently. My note on the PR disclaimers is here: #reply-13640136 . This was well received on this thread:

Thanks. I was just about to go look through the AMD press releases myself. I stand corrected -- apparently AMD disclaims just about everything in every release. #reply-13640136 Dave B
[Note: Thanks, Dave B, for being upright about this.]

(e) Re monopoly defense in Hitachi's lawsuit. My understanding of lawyers is that they will come up with every possible defense for their client. That's what they're paid to do.
