Gottfried, I agree with your buy-and-hold the gorillas comment. I currently have that angle more or less covered through a mix of safe, boring Fidelity funds. They allow me to own a larger mix of the majors than I could otherwise, and also prevent me from getting too carried away with individual stock purchases and short-term trading. Because those majors already account for a large part of the funds' holdings, it doesn't take a great deal of cash to buy an individual stock and effectively increase a gorilla position.

BTW, This morning my son was looking through the July issue of his "Thrasher" magazine (for skateboard enthusiasts) and said, "Dad, isn't West Marine one of those stocks you talk about?" He then pointed to a time-lapse photo on page 166 that shows a skateboarder who crashes after riding across the top, and flying off the end of a large cement West Marine sign. The caption read: "You pop, commit, and figure you've got it made until something goes horribly wrong on the landing." Well, I thought it was appropriate. <g> I just hope the boy was able to get back up and stay with it until landing a winner!

Regards - Dale
