There never was a discussion.

So let's have one ourselves.

Today Megs has her interview to be a young adult volunteer at the library. She will be one of the kids the little kids read their stories to in the summer reading program- she is very excited. And yesterday she had her interview to be an aid in summer school in a kindergarten class. ALL her own idea. I nearly fell over when she told me how she wanted to spend her summer. But you know- my example must have done it. I've volunteered all her life- but never urged it on her- and I guess she just absorbed the idea that that is what you DO.

I am very proud of her.

And I have a horrible story. I am very angry about it.

Molly was supposed to eat with her class in the cafeteria yesterday- the only time the kindergartners eat their. She was a little worried about it so I made her a big bag lunch of all her favorite things. When I got to the cafeteria to pick her up I saw over a hundred happy kindergartners eating their lunches- and my daughter, in the middle of a table full of eating children with NOTHING in front of her. She was being very good, just sitting there.

"WHERE is her food?", I asked. "You didn't send in money for the lunch?" says stupid teacher. "You HAD my three dollars for the field trip she didn't go on", I said, "AND I sent the lunch she was supposed to have with her- WHERE is that???" "She said she ate it" said stupid teacher. And all those snacks and juice packs I contributed to the classroom??? She couldn't have been given one of those??? I am very very angry. I got angrier the more I thought about it- when I think of the money and materials I've donated- and I am HOME- they couldn't call me? Molly cried all the way home. now she thinks the teacher doesn't like her. Well, no end of the year present for THIS teacher.
